TRANSISTOR
The transistor is like a small electronic switch and a current amplifier. There are basically two types of bipolar transistors: NPN and PNP
Symbol:
A transistor is like an electronic switch with three legs:
Base ( B ), Collector ( C ) and Emitter ( E )
Fantasy world:
When the input current at the Base (B) reaches a certain value, the switch between the Collector (C) and the Emitter (E) gets closed. Current can flow now through this path. This output current is always greater than the input current at the Base
We use the transistor for all these experiments: night-light, knock-light, puff-light, flip-flop, electron-catcher and touch-sensor.
There are many transistor types, for example the BC547 (NPN) and the BC557 (PNP) have the three legs in this order:
Collector ( C ), Base ( B ), Emitter ( E ) from left to right.
Other transistors, like the 3904 (NPN) and the 3906 (PNP) have the three legs in this order:
Emitter ( E ), Base ( B ), Collector ( C ) from left to right .
